What if I designed my own glasses?

As a duo of an architect and an engineer, we leveraged our 3D modelling skills, design, manufacturing knowledge and passion for innovation. 42 cups of coffee, and a few thousand mouse clicks later, our first pair of glasses was born.

Inspired by the transformative nature of our manufacturing technique and the material's original amorphous state, the name Ex Pulvis —Latin for 'From Dust'—emerged.

We quickly realized that the standard manufacturing method of eyewear often fails to accommodate the beautiful diversity of human faces. So we set about creating smart models and workflows to allow swift configuration changes and customisations.

This would immediately prove useful in addressing the challenge of fit across subtle nuances in facial features as well as speaking to the deeply personal desire for individuality, creativity, and self-expression. After all, our faces are our identity, what better way of celebrating that than by wearing eyewear that fits perfectly - physically and in character.

We have since paved the way for a new movement in the South African eyewear market. One of a leaner, environmentally friendly, and conscious approach to manufacture and supply alike.
